BIOGRAPHY
Rusty Nelson's background consists of 15 years in advertising design. He began as a paste-up artist and
completed his advertising career as owner of an ad agency. Nelson has extensive knowledge of print
production and the integration of computers into the design process. In addition to his design experience,
Prof. Nelson is an accomplished illustrator. He works in a range of traditional media including gouache, ink,
pencil, colored pencils and mixed media. His work has appeared in regional and national advertisements and
publications.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always lived and worked in the Midwest: Kansas and Missouri. My connection to the area is encoded at
the genetic level. My family has been working the same farm in Delphos, Kansas for five generations. There’
s a history there that I use as influences in my work. Not just a personal history but also a family history and a
regional history.
